Child Care Subsidy FAQs

Your CCS percentage depends on your family income, hours of care, how many of your kids aged 5 or under are in care, and your centre's hourly fee. Families earning $88,520 or less receive the maximum 90% subsidy rate. Above this threshold, your rate reduces by 1% for every additional $5,000 earned, reaching 0% at $538,520.

Centrelink pays your CCS directly to your childcare centre and deducts it from your fees, so you only pay the gap.

To calculate your CCS, Centrelink multiplies your CCS percentage by either your centre’s hourly fee or the national rate cap ($15.19/hr), whichever is lower, for every subsidised hour. They hold back 5% each fortnight until the end of the financial year and pay it back once your actual income is confirmed.

Work, study or neither, your family is now covered for at least 72 subsidised hours every fortnight, or roughly three days a week. This minimum came in on 5 January 2026 under the 3 Day Guarantee.

Your fortnightly hours can increase to 100 if:

  • the parent with the fewest hours works, studies or volunteers more than 48 hours a fortnight
  • your child identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander

Any hours you book over your limit are charged at the full fee. Our calculator shows you exactly when this happens, week by week.

Yes. When more than one of your children aged 5 or under is in care, the oldest stays on the standard CCS rate. Each younger sibling can attract up to 95%, provided your household earns less than $370,727. They can even be enrolled at different centres.

Your family may be eligible for CCS if:

  • your child is 13 or younger and not in secondary school
  • your child meets immunisation requirements
  • you or your partner meet residency requirements
  • you’re responsible for paying the childcare fees
  •  you use an approved childcare service
  1. Set up a myGov account and connect it to Centrelink.
  2. Submit a separate CCS claim for every child, along with an estimate of what your family will earn this financial year.
  3. Enrol your child at Beginnings Early Learners. Once your place is confirmed, the subsidy is automatically applied to your fees.

Tip: Keep your income estimate in myGov up to date to avoid owing any balance at tax time.
